Campbell wins silver in Pan American games

Coastal Carolina University alumna Amber Campbell and CCU rising senior Jessica Gelibert represented the track and field program at CCU well in the Pan American Games July 10 to 26 in Toronto.

Campbell earned a silver medal in the hammer throw. The five-time All-American’s toss of 233 feet, 8 inches was just short of winner Rosa Rodriguez of Venezuela (234-11).

Her next challenge will be the World Championships Aug. 22 to 30 in Beijing, China.

Gelibert, of Haiti, qualified for the finals in the 400-meter hurdles, posting a time of 57.58, the sixth-best time in heat competition. She placed third in the 400m Hurdles in the 2013 Pan Am Junior Championships.

Campbell also competed in the hammer throw at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, and the 2012 Olympics in London. She received a bronze in the 2011 Pan Am Games, held in Guadalajara, and competed in the 2005, 2009, 2011 and 2013 International Association of Athletics Federations championships.
