Area students to benefit from TEAL 1000 giving initiative

by Rashid

Coastal Carolina University students from Horry and Georgetown counties will be the beneficiaries of a new endowed giving initiative launched by the Office for Philanthropy. Alumni, business owners and community members are invited to partner with CCU in TEAL 1000, which will support scholarships for local students.

How TEAL 1000 works:

• Make a $1,000 donation annually.

• Revenue from all TEAL 1000 donations goes into an endowed fund and the interest supports scholarships for students from Horry and Georgetown counties.

The initiative is designed to allow local business owners and residents to have a direct impact on the education of students from their communities. Jeff and Kristin Thompson, owners of T2H Advertising in Myrtle Beach, recently joined more than 15 other businesses and individuals who have become TEAL 1000 members.

“It’s just an excellent opportunity for small businesses like ours to stand in support of CCU for its contributions to and major impact on our community as well as our business,” said Jeff Thompson. “For example, after Tori Jordan graduated from CCU, she joined our firm and made a truly impressive contribution here.”

Kristin Thompson added, “As a CCU alumna, not only did I benefit beyond my imagination as a result of the education I received, but the relationships I had with my professors – some of which have mentored me throughout my career. I’m proud to be part of CCU’s history and grateful they’re a part of mine.”

The Office of Philanthropy has set a goal for TEAL 1000 of 1,000 members by 2020. To support TEAL 1000 or for more information, contact Kim Causey Gomez in the Office for Philanthropy at kgomez1@coastal.edu or 843-349-5038. Give online at: support.coastal.edu/teal1000.
