Get ready for repaving and renovations

More updates on campus construction:

Beginning around May 9, two of the major campus roads will be repaved.

Chanticleer Drive east and west and Founders Drive will have all of the old asphalt removed by a milling process, then new base material will be installed, and then new asphalt will be laid. Once the project is completed, these areas will be lined for bike lanes and vehicular traffic.

At the same time, another crosswalk, called an intersection speed table, will be installed that will be similar to the one that is at University Boulevard and University Drive (near Lackey Chapel).

This one will be at University Boulevard and Chanticleer Drive East (near Wheelwright and Baxley Hall over to the Lackey Chapel Lot KK). It will be concrete this time, and there won’t be any pavers installed like the other one. Construction begins May 23.

Also at University Boulevard, three traffic signal improvements are being made, consisting of new signal equipment, controller upgrades, reprogramming and signal timing, phasing changes and incidentals including striping and detection loops.

This work should be completed by May 11.

Wall Building renovation

The third floor of the Wall Building is going to get a much-needed renovation this summer. The offices and classrooms with carpet will have new carpet installed, and ITS will be updating the cable. All the hallways, classrooms and offices will be painted, and the purple doors will be painted teal. The soundboards will be replaced in the classrooms as well. Some of the classrooms will have new projectors installed along with new interactive whiteboard systems. New tiered seats will be installed in the classrooms as well.

New seating will be installed in the Wall Building and in the James J. Johnson Auditorium.

Painting is scheduled for Student Health Services, the Student Union second floor, Prince Building, Edwards Building and the Coastal Science Center; some painting in Kearns Hall will also be completed.

This and that

In May and June, the new Residence Life Buildings (CINO and Teal halls) will be completed. Freshmen will move in this fall.

About 30 new monument signs have been placed around campus.

Sand volleyball facility and renovation of the Smith Science Center and UP Dining Hall will bid out soon, according to Rein Mungo, interim facilities director.
