Brian awarded faculty research award
President David DeCenzo and Provost Robert Sheehan recently awarded history professor Amanda Brian with the Young Faculty Research Incentive Award, designed to recognize the research progress of faculty and to support the research programs of Coastal Carolina University.The competitive award is made available through the University Research Council (URC). As part of her award, Brian will receive $1,000 for research supplies and archival travel to assist her in a transnational study of childcare in Germany and Japan and a history of pediatrics in modern Germany. During the 2010 – 2011academic year, she will advise the president and provost regarding the conduct of research, scholarship and creative affairs, and make recommendations to facilitate the research process and research productivity for untenured faculty at the University.
Brian, assistant professor of history, earned a bachelor's degree in history and German from the University of Indianapolis in 2001, a master's degree in history from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign in 2004, and a Ph.D. in history from the University of Illinois in 2009.
Her research and teaching interests are broad across 19th-century Europe but include women and children, imperialism and globalization, and medicine and science.
