CCU students travel to Italy for study abroad

Nineteen students and five faculty leaders enjoyed a Maymester study abroad trip to Arezzo, Italy. This was the third annual Arezzo trip where students were able to reside and study at the Accademia dell'Arte in Arezzo. From Arezzo, the students traveled to various Tuscan towns such as Assisi, Orvieto, Cortona, Florence, Siena and Rome.

The Accademia is a reformed 17th century bishop's villa with a unique history through the modern era, including having served as an orphanage during World War II. With beautiful and peaceful surroundings, this hillside sanctuary offers spectacular views of the town of Arezzo.

In addition to the students, there were also three faculty leaders, and two faculty "mentees" (faculty who are training to lead study abroad trips on their own). Faculty leaders were Stephanie Miller, Brian Nance and Ben Sota.

Faculty "mentees" were Megan McIlreavy and Philip Powell.

Students had the option to take up to two of three classes offered by the faculty leaders: ARTH/HIST 323: Italian Renaissance Art (Stephanie Miller); HIST 101: History of Western Civilization (Brian Nance), and THEA 201: World Theater Traditions (Ben Sota). For all three classes, most mornings were traditional classroom experiences and the afternoons were spent traveling and exploring.

Participatiing students were: Skyler Arrasate, Neenah Brown, Evelyn Clyburn, Hanna Davis, Kaeli Day, Devin Deluccia, Devann Donovan, Steven Griggs, Danielle Jesch, Katelynn Maher, Domenica Ripa, Jordan Scott,  Toni Smith, Matthew Staley, Shelby Teufel, Matthew van Grouw, Meghan Voyack, Gwendolyn Washington and Rachel White.
