Setting up new Presidential Service Excellence Task Force

For the past four years we have embraced a new priority at Coastal Carolina University – customer service and what it means within higher education, specifically at CCU. I recently put together a designated group of dedicated University leaders to help continue to move the Feel the Teal® Service Excellence initiative forward. This task force will work over the next two years to address four main goals as they relate to service at Coastal Carolina University.

Goal #1: Design and implement by July 2017 a comprehensive recognition program for faculty and staff as well as student staff who provide service excellence.

Goal #2: Identify and empower by December 2017 a team of faculty members and staff members from the Center for Teaching Excellence to Advance Learning (CeTEAL) and from the Office of Training, Development and Service Excellence staff charged with creating and implementing specific CeTEAL sessions that specifically address excellence in all elements of the teaching and learning process.

Goal #3: Develop and commence during the 2016-2017 academic year the pilot phase of a student training program appropriate for student staff and student organization leaders.

Goal #4: Take the lead by December 2017 among all private and public, two- and four-year institutions of higher education by conducting initial research and creating the framework for an association here at CCU of professionals engaged in providing and studying service excellence in higher education to include professional standards, a clearinghouse of information and resources, consulting / review services, and an annual CCU-hosted institute or symposium.

The Service Excellence Task Force will meet on three separate occasions each year with the first meeting being this month, Dec. 15. The members are comprised of four goal committees that each focus on one of the goals above. The goals were developed as a result of the last leadership team retreat and meeting.

I would like to thank each member of the newly appointed Feel the Teal® Service Excellence Task Force for accepting the challenge to create and sustain a stronger sense of institutional community and culture among Coastal Carolina University’s faculty, staff, students, alumni and stakeholders. I believe that each of these individuals will bring strong leadership and experience to the Task Force and that together we will accomplish great things for CCU. I am excited about what is yet to come.

Sincerely,

David A. DeCenzo, Ph.D.
President
