CCU hurricane forecast highly accurate for 2016 season

The 2016 hurricane season officially ended yesterday, and no one is happier than climate scientist Len Pietrafesa and his Hurricane Genesis & Outlook (HUGO) team at Coastal Carolina University near Myrtle Beach, S.C. Although members of the team had to deal with wind and flood damage from October’s Hurricane Matthew, on a professional level they are delighted with the high accuracy of their 2016 HUGO Hurricane Landfall Outlook forecast, which outperformed many of the storm prediction models used by other institutions for Matthew’s track, winds and precipitation.
