Summer updates on campus construction projects

Summer is a busy time for construction projects around campus. Here’s an update:

Academic Classroom Building

The Academic Office/Classroom Building II is getting the final touches prior to move-in. The 52,000-square-foot facility is located next to the Wall Building and will provide 100 faculty and administration staff offices, ITS office and space, and 15 classrooms ranging in size from 25 to 35 seats.

Substantial completion is done and punch work is ongoing, according to Rein Mungo, facilities director.

The building will be available for classes this fall semester.

University Place Dining Hall

Construction on the new dining hall started in Octobeer 2016, and the estimated completion date is this coming October. The existing building was demolished except for the communication room.

The Dining Hall will have a full service kitchen area, freezer and cooler storage, seating for 200, beverage stations, food service stations etc. It will operate just as Hicks Dining Hall now does on the main campus but mainly serve the students in the 46 buildings in University Place.

Brooks Stadium

This project involves constructing approximately 12,000 square feet in facilities and amenities, including a new hospitality suite, restrooms, concessions and bleachers. The budget is $31.8 million, and final completion is estimated for September 2019.

Phase I construction started on March 6. The contractor has completed the installation of the 144 auger pilings. They are in the process of installing the rebar for the pile caps, and the grade beams are being installed. When these are in place, the installation of the rebar will begin for the columns that the stadium seating will be placed upon. The new water and sewer lines are being connected for Brooks Stadium and the adjacent buildings in the area, according to Rein Mungo, director of facilities and management.

Bleachers should arrive mid-June for the west side of the stadium, and then in the middle of July for the east side of the stadium.

Kearns Hall
The Kearns Hall roof is being replaced. The entrances on the east side of the building (parking lot side) will be closed off until further notice and the adjacent parking spaces on the east side of the building will be roped off for contractor equipment.

The area of the building that is flagged off for construction contains the only ADA parking spaces and ramp access into the building. While individual safety is the primary focus, the facilities staff will assisnt anyone requiring special access to the building. Contact one of the individuals listed below for ADA coordination into the building should it be necessary:
