Walmart donates $7,500 to CCU’s LiveWell

Coastal Carolina University received a $7,500 donation from Myrtle Beach area Walmart stores during CCU’s recent Back-to-School event at the Carolina Forest Walmart on Myrtle Ridge Drive.

Several Walmart stores in the area collected cash donations and the store managers presented a check to CCU President David A. DeCenzo in front of the Walmart location during the event. This event has been a great success for the past eight years, and the contribution benefits the LiveWell health initiative at CCU.

“Through Walmart’s donation, LiveWell@CCU provides students, faculty and staff with opportunities to achieve their full potential in many dimensions of wellness,” said Caesar C. Ross III, director of Student Health Services. “We are thankful for Walmart’s generosity and appreciate its ongoing support for our efforts to promote a healthy environment for all members of our CCU community.”

LiveWell@CCU is a campus wide initiative that promotes the overall well-being of students, faculty and staff. The campus activities held through LiveWell connect people to resources that help everyone become healthy, engaged and more productive.

"We have enjoyed our partnership with CCU over the years and are proud to help support the growth of the university," said Michael Willard, store manager of the Myrtle Ridge Walmart.

“Walmart is one of Coastal Carolina University’s largest retail partners,” said Andrew McGlaughon, senior brand manager with Learfield Licensing Partners. “Their branded product is currently available in five different Walmart stores throughout the Conway/Myrtle Beach area. It is a great retail relationship for Coastal Carolina University as the merchandise selection and availability continues to grow.”

Learfield Licensing Partners (LLP) is the exclusive licensing agent for CCU. LLP helps to protect and promote the University brand; it facilitates the licensing process for licenses, executes licensing agreements, monitors the marketplace for unlicensed use of trademarks, collects royalties and conducts compliance review audits of licensed manufacturers.

The check presentation took place during an event featuring various vendors. Walmart shoppers, including many CCU students and family members, received free food and drinks. Staff from CCU handed out sports schedules and school supplies. Chauncey, CCU’s mascot, made an appearance to greet shoppers and assist in distributing CCU merchandise. Aug. 18 was the first day of move-in weekend at CCU.
