Atheneum January 2018 –All’s Well that Begins Well

Welcome back to another spring semester! While the weather may be cold and blustery, I know our interactions with customers will be anything but cold. I’d like to challenge us all to make our community feel welcomed, despite what may be unwelcoming weather.

Here are few simple ways we can help Teal Nation feel the teal in 2018:

• As our students return let us remember the impact a simple smile and eye contact can have.

• A new semester can be exciting for many, but can also be challenging and stressful. Welcome our new Chanticleers as we would those who joined us in August. Keep the Platinum Rule in mind: Treat others the way they want to be treated.

• Ensure your emails are professional, yet still show others your care. A simple greeting to start your email can make a big difference.

• Set a goal for the service you provide others. Whether that is practicing the coastal point, or trying to reply to emails in a more timely and efficient manner. A small improvement to the service you provide goes a long way!

• Learn more than your student’s names. Ask them how their break was and actively listen to their responses.

• Go out of your way to say thank you to a colleague. You could even nominate them for a Chauncey’s Champion Award.

Let’s start 2018 by remembering the culture of care we have created and continue to cultivate at CCU. It’s up to each of us to spread the Feel the Teal® spirit and enthusiasm through our individual interactions.

Welcome back, Chanticleers!

Sincerely,

David A. DeCenzo, Ph.D.
President
