The Sun Belt Conference announced its Team GPA winners for 2018-19 on Sept. 25, recognizing the highest grade point averages among the conference’s 16 sponsored sports. Coastal Carolina University earned the conference-wide accolade in three sports – women’s basketball, women’s golf, and men’s tennis.

The Chanticleer women's golf team had the highest team GPA among all Sun Belt Conference teams at 3.86, edging Georgia State’s women’s tennis and women’s cross country teams (3.83).

It is the second time that women’s golf has received the team academic honor, while men’s tennis received the award for the second-straight year. Women’s golf, women’s tennis, and men’s tennis have all earned the Team GPA award from the Sun Belt twice since Coastal joined the league in 2016-17.

The 2018-19 academic year marks the second-straight season in which Coastal has had three teams receive the honor, as men’s cross country, women’s tennis, and men’s tennis earned the honor last year for 2017-18. In 2016-17, the Chanticleers had two programs earn Team GPA awards from the Sun Belt in women’s golf and women’s tennis.

In terms of the number of teams with the highest grade point averages, the Chants were second behind only Georgia State with four teams (women’s cross country, men’s soccer, volleyball, and women’s tennis.
