Chanticleer Center for Literacy Education*
The Chanticleer Center for Literacy Education (CCLE) is a grant funded resource housed in the Spadoni College of Education. The CCLE supports literacy development in the local community by providing access to high-quality, developmentally appropriate, and culturally sustaining language and literacy opportunities and resources. Additionally, the CCLE provides opportunities for Spadoni College of Education teacher candidates to deepen their skills and understandings of high-quality language and literacy development and instruction. Learning is measured using a variety of formative and summative assessments as appropriate and community needs are monitored through feedback and publicly available literacy data. Through engagement with the CCLE, students, families, and teacher candidates develop strategies and skills needed to support language and literacy development and that foster a life-long love of literacy. The Spadoni College of Education teacher candidates and faculty conduct on-going assessments of learning and community needs to insure the on-going efficacy of the CCLE.
The mission of the CCLE is to promote the joy and value of lifelong literacy learning in a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment. With an emphasis on creating partnerships between families, schools, and educators, the CCLE offers a wide range of services to our community's diverse learners who need additional support in reading and writing while offering in-service and pre-service educators opportunities to explore research-based instructional strategies. The CCLE embraces its dual role as a resource for literacy education and as an advocate for literacy as a basic, fundamental right for every individual.
