Distinguished Speaker Series


The E. Craig Wall Sr. College of Business Administration formed the Distinguished Speaker Series in 2014. The purpose of the series is to connect the CCU academic community with highly regarded and successful business leaders, many of whom are Coastal Carolina University alumni, and to strengthen the relationship between the Wall College of Business and the business community.

Gregory Rayburn's Bio

Gregory F. “Greg” Rayburn is the founder and managing partner of restructuring firm Kobi Partner and is the former CEO and president of Hostess Brands.

Rayburn has more than 28 years of experience in providing operational improvement leadership to companies in industries including manufacturing, retail, consumer products, freight, telecommunications, retail, hospitality, pharmaceutical, healthcare and outsourced services.

He served as the chief executive officer of International Outsourcing Services LLC from 2007 to 2008. He served as the interim chief executive officer and interim chief operating officer of ZeeCRO Inc. from March 2004 to 2005. He served as the chief restructuring officer of Verizon Business Global LLC from July 2002 to 2004. He served as the chief executive officer of Muzak Holdings Finance Corp., Muzak Holdings LLC and Muzak LLC from July 2005 to June 2006. He served as chairman of the board and chief executive officer of leading The Piece Goods Shops Inc.

Rayburn served as senior managing director of FTI Consulting Inc. since December 2003 and as senior managing director and practice leader of FTI Palladium Partners, a division of FTI Consulting Inc. He served as an interim chief executive officer of Syntax-Brillian Corporation since June 2008 and served as the interim chief operating officer of Syntax-Brillian Corporation since April 2008, where he directed and oversaw its worldwide operational infrastructure. He also served as the chief executive officer at Diamond Resorts Corporation.

Rayburn served as the chief restructuring officer, chief executive officer or chief operating officer of several high-profile companies, including Indianapolis Downs LLC. He served as the chief executive officer of Syntax Groups Corp. and Syntax-Brillian SPE Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Syntax-Brillian Corporation. Rayburn served as the chief executive officer of the New York City Off-Track Betting Corporation, where, at the request of the governor of New York, he developed a reorganization plan and led negotiations with state race tracks and unions. He served as Chief Executive Officer of Magna Entertainment Corp. He served as the chief executive officer of FLUROwater, Inc. since September 2015. He served as an interim chief executive officer of Magna Entertainment Corp. since April 2009 and served as president of Sunterra Travel Service.

Rayburn served as the chief executive officer of Sunterra Corporation from 2000 to 2002. He served as a Principal of AlixPartners, LLC from 2000 to 2003 and also served as the president. He served as the president of The Capstone Group LLC from 1998 to 2000. He served as chief risk officer at WorldCom. Rayburn was a partner of Arthur Andersen LLC. He has been chairman of the board of FLUROwater Inc. since September 2014 and serves as its director.

Rayburn has been a director of The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company, Inc., since February 2011. He has been a director of Hostess Brands Inc. since March 2012. He is also licensed as a non-practicing certified public accountant. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the American Bankruptcy Institute. He is also a certified fraud examiner.

Rayburn received a bachelor’s degree in business and marketing and a Master of Accounting degree from the University of Alabama.
