On our campus, you will pass students who seem to glow. These individuals carry with them an infectious energy, leaving a breath of fresh air behind after any interaction they are involved in. Alexis Bothe, a sophomore public health student from Bluffton, S.C., is one of these special Chanticleers.

A native South Carolinian, Alexis has always been aware of CCU. When she graduated high school, it was clear that Coastal would be her best option. Once on campus, she started to branch out. In three semesters at CCU, Alexis is thankful for new friends and the chance to grow.

“I have met a lot of people and broadened my leadership opportunities,” Alexis explains when discussing the positive impact Coastal has already had on her.

Her growing social network and leadership endeavors stem from Alexis taking the initiative to become involved.  She is a sister of Alpha Delta PI and a student worker for CHANT411, two excellent avenues to become connected at CCU. Alexis hopes that by studying public health she will take a big step toward her career goal of working at a family planning facility.

It is our hope that Alexis will continue to spread her positivity around campus and in the community. She is a student we are thrilled to have around for another two and a half years.

Q&A with Alexis

How did you hear about Coastal?: I live in South Carolina so it was one of the schools that a lot of people from my area knew about.

Why did you come to Coastal? It was one of my best financial options and I love the campus.

Favorite professor: Andrea Bergstrom, Ph.D. – she’s so funny and made me eager to want to go to class.

Favorite class: I really enjoyed my Social Problems (SOC102) class from last semester. It exposed me to social problems and perspectives that I had not considered before.

Favorite aspect of Coastal?: I like the size of it. It's not too small to where I know every single face on campus but at the same time it's not too big. It is the perfect size to see my friends every day!

Favorite aspect of living in the Conway/Myrtle Beach area?: I have lived near a beach my whole life so I am glad that even in college that hasn't changed. I also like the distance it is from my hometown – not too far but not too close.

Clubs/Intramurals/other extracurricular activities involved in?: Alpha Delta Pi sorority, Phi Eta Sigma honors fraternity.

Do you work anywhere currently (either on or off campus?): I work at CHANT411 on campus. Best job ever!!

Plans after graduation?: I plan on hopefully going to grad school and working in a family planning facility.

What are your hobbies?: I like hanging out with my friends and being at the beach or pool when it's warm outside.

Bonus Info:  I can say the alphabet backwards... I don't know if that counts as a talent or if it is just a fun fact.
