My senior year of high school, I decided that whatever university I attended would not be a school that my siblings attended. I wanted my own path. Therefore, I chose a different university to begin my undergraduate experience. My freshman year consisted of me transferring twice until I found my home at CCU my sophomore year. I saw the impact it had on my sister and I wanted the same experience, if not better, at Coastal.

The moment I stepped foot on campus I knew I had found my home. I was greeted with teal. I joined my first organization under the Department of Music and I started making my own carbon footprint here. Whether I’m playing in a concert, guiding residents, or leading perspective students and their families around campus, I am enjoying every moment.

Meet Bria

Favorite professor: Pro. Tonya Melvin-Bryant

Favorite class: Intro to Multimedia Apps

Campus Involvement (organizations, activities, etc.): Trumpeter in various ensembles, Teal Trailblazer, former resident adviser, NSBE (National Society of Black Engineers) member and chapter senator.

Favorite trait of #CCU: The overwhelming pride you feel once steeping foot on campus.

Favorite Netflix series: Black Mirror

Favorite charitable cause: I have a passion for kids, so I volunteer with Palmetto Kids CDC afterschool program.

Item you would bring to a deserted island: The most cliché item, a knife. Closely followed by a bible.

Dream job: Owner of a front-end/ back-end web development company.

Favorite Southern food: Anything between fried chicken to my favorite dish of shrimp and grits.

Motivating factor in life: On the first day of one of my very first computer science programming courses, I walked in a room mainly composed of males. As I sit down, one guy looked at me and asked me if I was sure I was in the right class. This has drove me stay the course in my STEM field. When things get hard, in any of my classes, I ponder on this moment and remember that I can do anything I put my mind to and I press forward towards the finish line.

Favorite quote:  “Two roads diverged in a wood and I - I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.” – Robert Frost

Bonus Info:  I have worked at Chick-fil-A for more than seven years.
