Brittany's Video

Brittany Alford is not boring. Meet her and feel the energy ooze out of her as it gravitates toward you. We aren’t kidding. She doesn’t describe herself as “effervescent” for nothing. This sophomore from Myrtle Beach is a passionate young woman who brings with her a one-of-a-kind personality.

But don’t think Brittany uses her distinctive personality to overshadow those of others. In fact, she is so in tune with human nature that she appreciates and builds from those around her, especially students at Coastal.   Stating that campus is a place where “eccentricity flows,” Brittany enjoys engaging with and learning from her fellow Chanticleers.

An English major, Brittany has BIG plans. She dreams of moving to a major city where she can write, produce films and pursue investigative journalism. This is not to say she isn’t doing big things now. Brittany is very active, doing all she can to stand up for what she believes in, even to the point of leading protests. But she isn’t just in front of crowds; she is in front of screens as well. Brittany is the host of a campus news web show and has appeared on a few different television series as well.

Brittany has already left her mark at Coastal so you can only imagine what she will accomplish by the time she graduates in a couple years. One thing is for sure, she will be ready to move on to the next challenge. A native of the Grand Strand area, Brittany wants to eventually venture somewhere else where she can “soak in the cultures of the millions of people” around her. But even when she does find herself in a crowd that big, her personality will still stand out.

Brittany is a sophomore.

Q&A with Brittany

How did you hear about Coastal?:  I have grown up knowing about it, being that I am from the area.

Why did you come to Coastal?: It seemed like the best option due to my limited resources. It’s a university, and the best one in South Carolina, in my opinion. Liberal Arts rock!

Favorite professor: Either Christian Smith, Ph.D., or Dr. Kate Oestreich, Ph.D. They’re both so wonderful, both as people in general, and in the way that their lectures inspire me to think outside of the norm - they challenge myself and others, while also leveling the playing field and connecting with students on a human level, as well as an energetic level.

Favorite class: I do love Advanced Composition and Rhetoric for the reasons of talking about social and political issues, and combining philosophy with writing, but I also have an inherent love for my Acting class.

Favorite aspect of Coastal?: The diversity of the students; the eccentricity and creativity that I can feel flowing through the halls and courtyards. The fact that there are so many groups of people who support love and togetherness through expression.

Favorite aspect of living in the Conway/Myrtle Beach area?: Eh, I guess the beach is cool. It’s not really about the location for me, it’s about the cultures mixing together on campus that I’m intrigued with.

Clubs/Intramurals/other extracurricular activities involved in?: I am a member of the Golden Z Women’s Leadership Club.

Do you work anywhere currently (either on or off campus)?: I work in the Edwards Digital Studio on campus. I am the usual host of 54 Seconds (Coastal’s campus news web show), and also participate in writing/acting in/ and the overall production of short films and sitcoms to come. Outside of my every-day-jobs, during the summer I work on many shows around the area, including minimal roles on a few television series.

Plans after graduation?:  Move to a big city where I can write novels, produce films, participate in investigative journalism, and soak in the cultures of the millions of people around me, and all the art that their lives have to offer.

What are your hobbies?: I travel and lead protests, create clothing, paint, sing and think about the universe and the relational size of everything; the universal connection we all have to life, and how at the same time, nothing is sentient.

Do you have any hidden talents?: I hope not. I try not to hide who I am.
