Charli Watts grew up in Myrtle Beach and enjoys the area. However, she didn’t decide to attend Coastal Carolina because of comfort and familiarity. Instead, she decided to become a Chanticleer because of her career aspirations.

“I always heard that Coastal has the best education program in South Carolina and that is what drew me here,” Charli explains.

From a young age, the freshman early childhood education major has wanted to be a teacher. With the highly regarded Spadoni College of Education mere miles from the home she grew up in, Charli didn’t need to travel far to chase her dream. Wanting to provide herself with the best experience possible, she applied to the Teaching Fellows Program and was selected to become part of the latest CCU cohort. As a Teaching Fellow, she is afforded more “hands on opportunities” to develop her teaching skills before leading a classroom herself one of these days. When that time comes, her goal is clear.

“I want to inspire the lives of many children and apply the love for education I have in the future generations,” Charli says.

A positive individual who strives to “find the best in everybody,” Coastal has helped Charli become more confident. She says being on campus has helped her come out of her shell and lose some of the shyness she carried in the past. Her preference is to teach kindergarten and we know she will be more than ready to shape those young minds once she graduates in 2022.

Charli is from Myrtle Beach.
