Following a tough time in his life, Coastal Carolina sophomore Chase Newsome used the sorrow and disappointment he felt to redefine himself. When his grandfather passed away around the time Chase started high school, he searched for a way to cope with the loss of the man he calls his “only father figure.” He found relief in fitness.

“After I got a membership at my first gym I have never been the same,” Chase says.

His dedication to improving his own body led him to discover a passion for improving others. It didn’t take long for him to realize that personal training can be a very profitable career. However, no matter how quickly you can transform the bodies of your clients, it will go for naught if you don’t have a solid business foundation behind your efforts. Chase decided to attend Coastal Carolina and study business management, a decision he does not regret.

“Everyone at Coastal is really open and willing to talk to you so it makes learning that much easier,” Chase explains when talking about why he is so thankful to be a Chanticleer.

Using his professors to reach his academic goals and using the HTC Student Recreation Center to reach his fitness ones, Chase has found the perfect balance at CCU. When not in the classroom or the gym, he is either at a residence hall working as a desk assistant for University Housing or writing for The Chanticleer.

Ask Chase what he is focusing on this semester and we will respond with “trying my best.” If he continues to put his full effort into everything he does, Chase will have a lot of people seeking his services once he graduates from CCU.
