My first experience at CCU was my on-campus B.F.A. audition. Having already been to several college auditions, I thought I knew what to expect, I thought I had it in the bag, I thought the environment would be the same as everywhere else I had auditioned. Boy, I was wrong. Never, until my Coastal audition, had I felt so welcomed in a new environment, challenged in workshops, and encouraged by faculty who didn’t even know me. Before I was even accepted, I felt as if I was part of a family. I felt as though I had already learned and grown so much, and that was only after my audition day! Immediately, this wonderful University, which I hadn’t even heard about a year prior, hopped up to my top choice. The stars aligned, and a couple months later, I found out I was accepted to the B.F.A. Acting program. Without hesitation, I committed to Coastal Carolina University, and this continues to be the best decision I have ever made.
In the year that I have been here, I have learned so much more than I ever imagined I would. I have had the opportunity to train under phenomenal, experienced faculty in the Department of Theatre. These professors consistently push me to be the best version of myself while guiding me in the direction of success. Not only that, but I was lucky enough to be hired as a student photographer for the Office of University Marketing and Communication during my freshman year. With the guidance and support of my supervisor and co-workers, my photography has transformed, and I now feel more confident in my ability to enter the “real world” as a freelance photographer, gaining even more confidence every day.
As a Coastal student, each day brings new lessons, challenges, victories and memories. I am in an environment in which I can thrive while discovering the world and the people and things which are different from myself and my norm. I can honestly say I have a family here, and I don’t think it gets much better than that.
