For someone who struggled to find a major, Dylan Boston has dispelled all notions that a slow start deciding what to study will have detrimental effects on a student’s academic and professional career.

A senior accounting student from Pawleys Island, Dylan chose Coastal because of the community-centered atmosphere and intimate learning environment. However, while his reasons for attending CCU didn’t disappoint, he faced difficulties identifying what he wanted to study. After experimenting with a multitude of majors, he found his calling.

“Accounting isn’t something you can just walk into and understand,” Dylan says, revealing the major he ultimately chose. “You need a systematic foundation and a good basis before you can start.”

Obviously, an individual needs a specific skill set to prosper in accounting. Because of Dylan’s patience and because of Coastal’s commitment to help students find their strengths, a fit was ultimately identified. To say the “fit” has been anything less than perfect would be a mischaracterization. Aside from excelling in his course work and landing a student accounting position within the Office of Financial Services, Dylan has an internship with a Big 4 accounting firm waiting for him once he graduates in May.

But Dylan has done more than just grow from a freshman who didn’t know his path to a coveted accounting prospect.

“CCU has really helped me grow fundamentally,” says Dylan. “Not only academically, but socially.”

Dylan has developed countless relationships beyond his local network of friends he had before enrolling at Coastal. He has also joined or earned membership in several clubs and organizations, rising to leadership positions in a couple of them. Stating his desire to “really make a difference in the world,” Dylan will do more than just thrive at a major firm. With an ambition to start a scholarship fund for students who are at a disadvantage when it comes to gaining college admission, there is no question that Dylan’s heart is in the right place. We can’t wait to watch him succeed at both a corporate and public service level.
