For someone who has a passion for traveling, it makes sense that Ethan Olkovikas decided to travel 800 miles for his college experience. From Goffstown, N.H., Ethan chose Coastal Carolina because of the unique opportunities available and the chance to live in and experience a different region of the country. The fact that Coastal places a high emphasis on constantly improving all facets of campus life just made him even more eager to become a Chanticleer.

It did not take long for Ethan to pursue his love once he arrived at CCU. A part of the Arts and Humanities Global Experiences Program, he found himself traveling to London for an unforgettable trip that enabled him to meet academic leaders and explore an exciting part of the world. The experience proved quite impactful; Ethan has a goal to return to London for graduate school after graduating from Coastal.

Ask Ethan how he describes himself and he will respond with “happy.” Adding that he loves the point in life he is at right now, Ethan will tell you that everything seems to fit from his friends to his job to his university. Despite the distance from Goffstown, he truly feels at home right here on campus.

Make no mistake about it, Ethan is telling the truth when he claims that he can carry on a conversation with anyone. Don’t waste your opportunity! Before he leaves the country upon graduating next academic year, make sure to meet him. It will be worth your time.

Q&A with Ethan

How did you hear about Coastal?:  I had always been interested in going to school in a different region where I could live in an interesting place and experience a new culture.

Why did you come to Coastal?:  I came to Coastal Carolina University because of the programs they offer and the investments they constantly make in all parts of their campus community.

Favorite professor:  I have taken a new course with Dr. Keaghan Turner each semester I have been at Coastal.  I find her academic interests and passions genuine and inspiring.

Favorite class:  In my time here at Coastal, my favorite class has to have been Journalism 311: Principals of Advertising.  I took it with Clay Craig before he left.  The class and the professor reaffirmed my desire to work in advertising.

Favorite aspect of Coastal?:  There are lots of different people, but it is also a proud and tightknit community.  Most importantly, I love the many different opportunities and unique experiences students can make for themselves.

Favorite aspect of living in the Conway/Myrtle Beach area?:  I love autumn in Myrtle Beach.  You can wear layers and walk on the beach without sweating.  Fall is less crowded here than the summer and there are still so many ways to entertain yourself.

Clubs/Intramurals/other extracurricular activities involved in?:  I was a part of Coastal’s inaugural Arts and Humanities Global Experience Program with Dr. Pillai.  We got to travel to London to meet with academic leaders from all over the world and also worked to bring Fullbright Scholars to Coastal from different countries to share their research.

Do you work anywhere currently (either on or off campus)?:  I am a server at Key West Grill at Broadway at the Beach.

Plans after graduation?:  I am planning on moving to London and going to grad school there.

What are your hobbies?:  My favorite thing to do is to travel.  I don’t think there is a place I wouldn’t travel to if the opportunity were presented to me.  My favorite tattoo is a world map I got after I left the continent for the first time.

Do you have any hidden talents?:  I could likely carry a conversation with anybody.  About anything.  Forever.

Bonus Info:  I am really glad I made the decision to come to Coastal Carolina University.  I am incredibly thankful for all of the opportunities that I have had on campus and in the surrounding community.  I would recommend Coastal to anybody.
