From the beginning, Huston Todd knew she wanted to be a Chanticleer. Growing up in the area, she always thought she would attend CCU. That notion was solidified the day Huston took her campus tour, believing afterwards that she “really belonged in Teal Nation.”

A communication major, Huston brought innate leadership skills to campus. She attended CINO Quest as a freshman and will serve her second year as a leader for the program this July. Additionally, she is the recruitment director for her sorority, Sigma Sigma Sigma, and she can teach anyone the finer points of home décor through her lead instructor position at AR Workshop Myrtle Beach.

“I have had the opportunity to be involved with lots of programs and meet tons of people that I otherwise would not have met,” Huston says, adding, “They have made a huge impact on my life.”

Of course, Huston has made an impact in the lives of others as well. At all times, she tries to empower the people she is working with.

“A lot of the people in my life have empowered me to push myself,” Huston explains. “I feel like I try to do the same for other people in my life just to kind of give back and give the support they have given me.”

Huston has an interest in corporate event planning and would like to work for a company that would allow her to develop those skills and climb the ladder. Her preferred landing spot after graduation is somewhere on the West Coast, hopefully in a position that will allow her to “grow, learn, and be better.”

Before Huston heads ventures out, she will have some more time to grow and learn on campus. Just a junior, she has her big senior year coming up starting this August. We are lucky to have this local on campus and will enjoy her as much as possible until she heads west.

Huston is from North Myrtle Beach.
Huston is a communication major.

Q&A with Huston

How did you hear about Coastal?: Coastal has always been the college in my area, so we visited CCU quite frequently for different things while I was in high school

Why did you come to Coastal?: I always thought I would end up at Coastal, but after my campus tour I knew I really belonged in Teal Nation.

Favorite professor: Wes Fondren, Ph.D. I have been able to have him as a professor, but also when I was in the process of changing my major to communication, I could just tell that he really wanted me to succeed and thrive in the communication program. Two years later, he still encourages me to push myself and try new things within the department. He has been a great role model throughout my time in the program.

Favorite class: My favorite class this semester is my Interactive Journalism Basics class. I have been able to understand a different aspect of media and go out into the community and meet city officials.

Favorite aspect of Coastal?: My favorite aspect of Coastal is the family atmosphere. I have been fortunate enough to meet my forever friends here and have been given opportunities that have shaped me in so many ways.

Favorite aspect of living in the Conway/Myrtle Beach area?: I love being able to “live where others vacation”. I have been able to meet so many different people from different places.

-              I am currently a mentee to Lindsi Glass and she has helped me connect with several contacts who have been very helpful in furthering research in my field.

Do you work anywhere currently (either on or off campus)?: I am a lead instructor at AR Workshop Myrtle Beach. It is a DIY wood workshop that specializes in creative home decor.

I also recently got hired at Tupelo Honey as a server!
