In life, things change. Especially in the fast paced society we live in today, the current day can look much different than the previous. Thankfully for Leroy Simmons, change does not rattle him. Saying that one of his greatest assets is the ability to adapt to an ever-changing environment, Leroy describes himself with the word dynamic.

His personality couldn’t go any better with his field of study. Leroy is an information technology student with a heavy interest in cyber security. It doesn’t take an IT wiz to know that in order to respond adequately to the cyber threats that evolve and impact us all on a daily basis, the technology used to combat it must evolve at an even quicker pace, staying one step ahead. Doing this type of IT work is not easy, but it is a challenge that Leroy will gladly take once he graduates.

But that commencement ceremony is still down the road in May of 2018. Until then, Leroy will continue to keep busy with his academics and his involvement on campus. Among other groups, Leroy is a brother of the Alpha Kappa Psi Professional Business Fraternity and a member of the Coastal Activities Board. He also manages to put in hours working at the Chanticleer Store. Until he becomes a sought-after member of the work force because of his valuable set of skills, we hope Leroy thoroughly enjoys his final 14 months on campus.

Q&A with Leroy

How did you hear about Coastal?: I had a few family members already attending Coastal when I heard about it my junior year in high school.

Why did you come to Coastal?: The bigger schools were just too big for me especially in terms of class size. When deciding on a college, I felt I would need an institution that was smaller so it could be more personal. The campus at Coastal was perfect and the tour was 10x better than any other college I visited.

Favorite professor: Cory Nance

Favorite class: CSCI 145

Favorite aspect of Coastal?: The small class sizes.

Favorite aspect of living in the Conway/Myrtle Beach area?: I would have to say the beach.

Clubs/Intramurals/other extracurricular activities involved in?

- Brother of Alpha Kappa Psi Professional Business Fraternity

- Member of Upsilon Pi Epsilon Honor Society of Computer Science

- National Society of Leadership and Success

- Coastal Activities Board

Do you work anywhere currently (either on or off campus)? I currently work at the Chanticleer Store (university bookstore) and at Student Computing Services on campus.

Plans after graduation?: I really want to land an IT security job in North Carolina in either Charlotte or Raleigh.

What are your hobbies?: Music, movies and working out.

Do you have any hidden talents?: I am still searching for them.
