If you need an example of a student prospering in her major, look no further than Lisa Saguto. A senior marketing student from Gettysburg, Pa., she has shown her commitment to her area of study through various means.

An excellent student, Lisa has used her natural intelligence and ability to “make connections” to thrive in the classroom. Her outgoing nature has allowed her to not just delve into marketing concepts with fellow students but with the marketing faculty as well. Lisa has built relationships with her professors and used their expertise and encouragement to become a better student and a better future professional.

When it comes to the extracurricular groups offered within her major, Lisa has ascended to the very top. She is the president of Coastal Carolina’s American Marketing Association chapter, the premiere student leadership position within the marketing program. She also holds a leadership role within Beta Gamma Sigma, a business school honor society. Additionally, she is a Student Executive Leaders (SEL) and a member of Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society.

But Lisa isn’t succeeding in her major solely because of classes and groups offered at Coastal. She has distinguished herself via her position with the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau. Taking direction from the chamber’s sales team, she handles various responsibilities from obtaining quotes from area hotels to performing graphic design work to managing inventory.

With graduation looming in May, Lisa is already weighing a couple of different job opportunities. Count on her to land something impressive, a well-deserved reward for the hard work she has put in since arriving at Coastal Carolina.

Lisa enjoys working out at the HTC Center.

Q&A with Lisa

How did you hear about Coastal?: My family wanted to move south, so I transferred from my high school after sophomore year to the school in Pawleys Island. Before moving, I found Coastal online when researching the area, and thought it definitely seemed like a university I would be interested in. If my family had not decided to move here, I probably would not have been able to attend Coastal. I am very grateful that my family decided to relocate!

Why did you come to Coastal?: I knew I could count on Coastal to give me a quality business education because the Wall College is AACSB-Accredited. Also, the school size is not too large, campus is beautiful and it is near the beach! As a current student, I feel like I’m part of a family, and I don’t think I could go anywhere else. What’s not to like?

Favorite professor: Monica Fine, Ph.D.

Favorite class: Personal Sales and Sales Management (MKTG 455)

Favorite aspect of Coastal?: The campus is gorgeous and there are so many “amenities” available for students. I love the gym at the HTC Center, the game room and attending sporting events with my friends!

Favorite aspect of living in the Conway/Myrtle Beach area?: I did part of my growing up here. I have roots in this area, and it’s really cool to be welcomed into a community where people are very active and help each other out. The area and my experiences here have helped to shape who I am today.

Clubs/Intramurals/other extracurricular activities involved in?: President of the American Marketing Association at Coastal Carolina, vice president of marketing and communications at Beta Gamma Sigma, Student Executive Leaders, Phi Eta Sigma National Honors Society

Do you work anywhere currently (either on or off campus)?: I work for the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce/Convention Visitors Bureau, where we promote tourism and economic development in the Myrtle Beach area. I work with the group sales division there, and it has a wonderful company culture!

Plans after graduation?: I am either going to continue working at the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce/Convention Visitors Bureau, or I have a potential job opportunity in the Charlotte, N.C. area. I’m very excited for all of my opportunities to come!

What are your hobbies?: I love to cook, paint, sculpt, work in graphic design, keep active, explore, go to concerts, travel and go to the beach with my family.

Do you have any hidden talents?: I can eat a whole pizza by myself!

Bonus Info: I have a Pomimo puppy named Niko, and he is a furry Chanticleer fan!
