Lizeth Alcantar wanted that perfect distance between her hometown of Georgetown, S.C., and the location of her college choice. You know, still close to home but far enough to enjoy some space? When she researched Coastal Carolina University, she knew it was the perfect choice.
A public health student with a career goal to help communities by providing health education, Lizeth is gaining precious experience working for the Counseling Outreach Advocacy Student Team (C.O.A.S.T.). When not attending classes or working in the C.O.A.S.T. office, Lizeth enjoys watching movies and finding delicious pasta recipes on Pinterest.
Although she has only been at CCU for two years, she has perhaps already paid the University the highest compliment. Lizeth will tell you that Coastal Carolina has made her a better person and community member. For giving us such an opportunity to help develop personal growth, we owe Lizeth must gratitude.
Q&A with Lizeth
How did you hear about Coastal?: I heard about Coastal when applying for local colleges.
Why did you come to Coastal?: I love the fact that I am really close to home, yet far enough to where I can expand and grow as an individual.
Favorite professor: I don’t have a favorite professor. However, my favorite person on campus is my boss, Chris Donevant- Haines.
Favorite class: I really enjoy my Public Health 310 Issues Family Life and Sexuality Class.
Favorite aspect of Coastal?: I love the atmosphere of Coastal, it definitely gives you the feeling of a home away from home.
Favorite aspect of living in the Conway/Myrtle Beach area?: I love that every one of my favorite restaurants, stores and places to go to are very close to me.
Clubs/Intramurals/other extracurricular activities involved in?: I am a part of the COAST, Honors program and National Society of Leadership and Success.
Do you work anywhere currently (either on or off campus)?: I do. I actually work at the COAST Office which is in the Lib Jackson Student Union Building and we do many events on mental health and wellness.
Plans after graduation?: I am currently thinking about pursuing a graduate degree in public health and then searching for a job that will allow for me to help communities through health education.
What are your hobbies?: I enjoy spending time with all four of my cats, I love watching movies and I love looking for new pasta recipes on Pinterest.
Do you have any hidden talents?: I feel it is probably not that all impressive and more on the gross side but I can pick up small objects with my toes.
Bonus Info: I am very glad that I chose Coastal for it has shaped me as a better person and as a community member. Chants up!
