Taylor Moon calls Coastal Carolina University “one of the best decisions I have ever made.” Interestingly enough, it was almost a decision she put herself in position not to make. Taylor attended college at a different university her freshman year. She could have stayed at that institution and earned a degree that said something other than Coastal Carolina University across the front of it. But she wanted to make a change and #TEALnation was her landing spot.

A business management senior, Taylor grew up in North Myrtle Beach. Coming back home and enrolling in her local university had an immediate #CCUPositiveImpact on both Coastal Carolina and herself. She became an orientation leader, a role that is crucial to welcoming our new students to campus and helping them feel like valued Chanticleers. She also found employment within the Office of Human Resources where she is the first face many of our new hires see.

Taylor wants to pursue a career in higher education, focusing primarily in student affairs. For those familiar with this area of work, it can be very rewarding but also challenging at the same time. Not that Taylor would ever back down from a challenge. Noting her tenacity, she has no issue setting and achieving goals.

“If I want something, then I go out and get it no matter what it takes,” Taylor says.

Graduation is looming soon. As she prepares to walk across the stage in May, Taylor is to be commended for taking control of her educational path and transferring to Coastal. We wish her a terrific final semester.

Taylor is studying business management.
Taylor is from North Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Q&A with Taylor

How did you hear about Coastal?: I grew up in the area, just 30 minutes down the road from the Coastal Carolina campus.

Why did you come to Coastal?: I transferred from the College of Charleston to Coastal my sophomore year of college after a less than par freshman year. I chose Coastal because it was close to home. Little did I know that this would be one of the best decisions I  ever made.

Favorite professor: Karen Sauls, Sam Wathen, Ph.D., Dick Drass (so hard to choose just one)

Favorite class: All of the classes that I have taken in the business school have been amazing. It sounds so stereotypical but I really can’t choose just one class that was my favorite. I thoroughly enjoy all of my major classes.

Favorite aspect of Coastal?: Coastal feels like home. Everyone here is so welcoming and accommodating. I couldn’t imagine myself on any other campus.

Favorite aspect of living in the Conway/Myrtle Beach area?: Being so close to the beach but also being close to Downtown Conway. You get the best of both worlds: the beach and a quaint little southern town.

Clubs/Intramurals/other extracurricular activities involved in?: Orientation team member

Do you work anywhere currently (either on or off campus)?: Student assistant in the Office of Human Resources and as an orientation leader/orientation assistant in the Office of New Student and Family Programs.

Plans after graduation?:  Pursue a career in higher education/student affairs/educational leadership.

What are your hobbies?: I am a Netflix binge-watcher. If I am not studying or working, I am most likely binge-watching a season on Netflix. It started with Greys Anatomy, then Scandal, now Riverdale.

Do you have any hidden talents?: My fingers are double jointed…every single one of them.
