‘Blood Wedding’ to be performed by CCU students

"Blood Wedding," a Spanish tragedy play by Federico Garcia Lorca, will be performed by Coastal Carolina University students from Thursday, April 3, through Saturday, April 12, in the Edwards Theatre on the CCU campus. The public is invited; tickets are required.

The story is based on a newspaper story detailing a son and a daughter of feuding families running away together. The play investigates the subjects of desire, repression and Spanish custom all within the constraints and commitments of the rural Spanish community in which it is rooted.

The play is directed by Matthew Earnest, an American theater director. Earnest has also written plays, as well as adapted plays from short stories and essays, and has translated works in other languages for his direction. He has directed his own plays as well. In 2012, he co-founded an international touring company, The Lunar Strategem. His productions have been seen across the U.S., Europe and Africa.

The musical director is Michael Gribbin, CCU assistant professor of theatre. The assistants to the director are AJ Gardner and Miranda Frederick. The stage manager is Brian Marshall; the assistant stage manager, Sammy Papp.

Cast members are Brantley Ivey, Korinny Sanchez, Jordan Sharp, Brianne Campbell, Miquela Rivers, Keondra Walker, Emily Kakish, Krista Gierlach, Caitlin Yarosz, Christina Daves, Ashley Reese, Alexis Barone, Chantall Montgomery, Emily Peiffer, Michael Golino, Nate Quetel, Cody Taylor, Kaleb Allen, Duncan Overby, Steven Mackenzie, Ben Billand, Connor Kendall, Michael Onofaro and Corey Ryan.

Show times are:

* Thursday, April 3, through Saturday, April 5, at 7:30 p.m.

* Thursday, April 10, and Friday, April 11 at 7:30 p.m.

* Saturday, April 12 at 3 and 7:30 p.m.

Tickets can be purchased at the Wheelwright Box Office Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., or call 843-349-ARTS (2787). Ticket prices are: $15 general admission; $5 CCU/HGTC students, faculty and staff; $10 alumni, OLLI, senior citizens and teens; $5 for children.

Edwards Theatre is located in room 120 of the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts at 133 Chanticleer Drive W. on the CCU campus.
