Christy Mag Uidhir, an assistant professor at the University of Houston, will discuss "What's so Bad about Blackface?" on Wednesday, April 9, at 4:30 p.m. in the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts Recital Hall at Coastal Carolina University. This event is free and open to the public.

As part of the Jackson Family Center for Ethics and Values' Philosopher's Corner series, Uidhir will discuss the cinematic practice of actor-character race mismatching, from the historically infamous to the intuitively repugnant. He will focus on the untruths and unrealistic portrayals of race. He argues that such film fictions are aesthetically, epistemically and morally defective.

Uidhir studied at Brown University and earned a Ph.D. in philosophy from Rutgers University. He has published "Art and Art Attempts" and "Art and Abstract Objects" and is currently working on multiple scholarly articles.
