Darius Rucker concert at CCU Sold Out
Charleston-born Rucker first attained multiplatinum status as the lead singer and rhythm guitarist of Hootie & the Blowfish, a rock band formed in 1986 while he attended the University of South Carolina. The band released five studio albums with him as a member and charted six top 40 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, with Rucker co-writing the majority of the songs with the other three members.
Rucker also wrote 10 of the 12 songs on his current album, "True Believers," ranging from the feel-good sing-along "Radio" to the sophisticated narrative "Shine."
He calls the album a "triumphant reflection of the rewards and challenges of sustaining a marriage."
His previous two albums, "Learn To Live" and "Charleston, SC 1966," both topped the Billboard Country Album chart and produced five number one singles.
In 2008, he released "Learn to Live"; the album's first single, "Don't Think I Don't Think About It," made him the first African American with a number one country song since Charley Pride in 1983.
Recently, Rucker received his third career GRAMMY award for Best Solo Country Performance for his triple platinum selling hit song, "Wagon Wheel," which spent two weeks at No. 1 and sold over 4 million copies. Last year, he achieved a childhood dream when he was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry.
Premium parking is available at the HTC Center for $20; adjacent parking as low as $5 will be available the day of the show. Parking in more remote lots on campus is free. Shuttle buses will be running prior to and after the concert.
