Coastal Carolina University's chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS), the international honor society for collegiate business students, was recently named a 2016 Gold Chapter in the organization's annual competition among more than 560 collegiate chapters. The gold chapter is the top honor that a BGS chapter can receive. This is the second time CCU's chapter has received this honor, which includes a $1,500 scholarship; the first time was in 2013.

"Winning the gold award is an incredible achievement for Costal Carolina University," said Cara Scheuer, BGS chapter adviser in CCU's E. Craig Wall Sr. College of Business Administration. "I am especially proud of our 2015 BGS student officers Matt Alexander, Brittani Crawley, Hannah Hardee, Jessica Hughes, Ashton Rider and Chapter President Nicole Boyle for their leadership and commitment to the success of our chapter and its members."

"It is a pleasure to serve as the faculty adviser for this excellent group of students," said Melissa Clark, BGS faculty adviser. "They represent the best and brightest in business."

The competition provides an opportunity for BGS chapters across the world to compete for scholarship money for their students and to be recognized for their outstanding chapter performance.

"This is an achievement the Wall College is very proud of, and it reflects the hard work of our chapter advisers and student members," said Barbara Ritter, dean of the Wall College of Business. "The receipt of the BGS gold chapter award acknowledges the diligence of our students and the high standards embraced by the college."

Coastal Carolina University's BGS chapter was established in 1999. The mission of the society is to encourage and honor academic achievement in the study of business and to recognize personal and professional excellence in the practice of business.
