Biomedical research is underway this summer at Coastal Carolina University. It involves Paul Richardson, Ph.D., professor and chemistry department chair, several undergraduate students, and a teacher and student from the Scholars Academy, which is located on CCU's campus. There are two projects. One looks at ways to fight harmful bacteria in local water, using natural means; and the other seeks to determine if bloodborne infectious diseases can be detected in a community by testing mosquitoes. All students involved are gaining knowledge and experience that will give them a boost as they advance in their academic careers.
