CCU approved to administer Moderna vaccinations

July 27, 2021
Coastal Carolina University’s Student Health Services (SHS) has been approved as a COVID-19 vaccine provider.

Coastal Carolina University’s Student Health Services (SHS) has been approved as a COVID-19 vaccine provider. The University’s students, faculty, and staff will now be able to receive the Moderna vaccine conveniently on campus free of charge. The vaccine, which is recommended for individuals 18 years of age and older, is administered in two doses spaced 28 days apart. SHS says the efficacy rating of the Moderna vaccine is very high, and recent studies show that it is also very effective against the new delta variant.

SHS’s first Moderna vaccine administration day is scheduled for Thursday, July 29. CCU students, faculty, and staff who would like to get vaccinated on campus are asked to call SHS at 843-349-6543 to schedule an appointment. Individuals who visit SHS are required to wear a face covering/mask, over nose and mouth, at all times while inside the building.

The University does not mandate COVID-19 vaccinations for its students, faculty, and staff.

“Getting the COVID-19 vaccine is a choice,” said Caesar C. Ross III, CCU’s director of Student Health Services. “The student health team is an on-campus resource to get questions answered about the COVID-19 Moderna vaccinations available to students, faculty, and staff. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, COVID-19 vaccines continue to be very effective at preventing severe disease, hospitalizations, and death. We are encouraging everyone to join efforts to protect the health and well-being of the University community as well as address the growing pandemic among the unvaccinated.”

In August, the University will launch a comprehensive program, which will include incentives, to encourage students to be fully vaccinated. CCU’s Fall 2021 semester begins Wednesday, Aug. 18.
