Student veteran group wins national honor
The Student Veterans Association at Coastal Carolina University has been named Chapter of the Month by Student Veterans of America, recognizing the progress made by the chapter in 2015.
Last year, the Student Veterans Association made changes on campus that included free parking for student veterans and handicapped parking privileges for student veterans with a disability percentage of 30 percent or higher if they have mobility issues and cannot get a handicap tag from the Department of Motor Vehicles.
“This award represents the hard work and long hours we have poured into our growing chapter,” said James Byrne, president of SVA at CCU. “Now the rest of the country knows that CCU’s Student Veterans program is a serious student organization that is competitive on the national stage.”
Student Veterans of America is a coalition of student veterans groups on college campuses. It serves to provide veterans with the resources and support to succeed in higher education and achieve their academic goals.
