Department of Coastal & Marine Systems Science

Society, infrastructure and economies are increasingly concentrated in the dynamic and complex region where earth, ocean, atmosphere and society interact. As a result there is increasing need to better understand coastal systems and to convey the best science available to support effective resource management. The Department of Coastal and Marine Systems Science offers two graduate degree options focused on these goals: the Ph.D. in Marine Science: Coastal and Marine Systems Science and the M.S. in Coastal Marine and Wetland Studies.

The undergraduate program toward the B.S. in Marine Science is offered through the Department of Marine Science.

CCU SCIENCE IN ACTION

Coastal Carolina University owns about a third of a barrier island on the northern South Carolina coast. Waties Island is used by students for undergraduate and graduate study and research projects. Typically, the CCU portion of the island is off-limits to the public, but a couple of times during the year families of students can go out to experience it. Watch video (run time 1:55) »
