“Just be original, be unique. Don’t follow the wave, just be you. Don’t be afraid to be different.”

Christopher Stockdale loves to dress up and is known around campus for his fashion sense. So, when we asked him what he would tell his fellow Chanticleers who were looking for style advice, he said the above.  However, his fashion wisdom could just as well reflect the philosophy he has followed for his success here at Coastal.

Commenting that he is a type of leader who isn’t afraid to be “goofy” when the situation calls for it, Christopher won’t hesitate to defy the norm and just be himself. A senior recreation and sport management student from Rock Hill, S.C., he decided to attend Coastal because of the family atmosphere that is evident on campus. Even though it meant leaving his brothers (he is a triplet), Christopher knew CCU was for him.

Involved in SGA, Coastal Activities Board (CAB) and the African American Initiative for Males (AAIM), Christopher has made himself known on campus through the organizations that he is part of. However, nothing brings him more happiness than his role as an orientation leader. To have that initial positive impression on new students is important to Christopher. Revealing that landing the gig made him really want to stay at CCU, you can see how seriously he takes his orientation leader responsibilities.

Christopher has his eye on a student affairs career in higher education. He knows a graduate degree will help him achieve success in the industry so he is looking at more schooling once he graduates. Wherever he ends up studying, that university will have big shoes to fill.

“CCU has really showed me who I am as a person and who I am as man,” Christopher says. “It really got me out of my comfort zone as well.”

Thanks for choosing Coastal, Christopher! Enjoy the rest of your senior year.
