Coastal Carolina University's Summer 2020 commencement ceremony will be held on Friday, Aug. 7, at 2 p.m. inside the HTC Student Recreation and Convocation Center. The doors into the HTC Center will open one hour prior to the start of the ceremony. Tickets are required for the ceremony; seating is offered on a first-come, first served basis.
General Ceremony Information
During commencement, degree candidates march into the HTC Center, students process with their school, behind the University banners listing the name of the school. This ceremony includes addresses from the president, the chairman of the Board of Trustees, the commencement speaker; honorary degrees are bestowed; and students are officially recognized as graduates of the University.
The ceremony should last approximately one and a half hours. Graduates will partake in a Coastal Carolina University tradition as they recess out of the HTC Center and pass through the gauntlet. The gauntlet is a long-standing tradition where CCU faculty form a tunnel for students to pass through, enabling the faculty to wish the new graduates luck in their future endeavors. To ensure a quick and safe exit, graduates are urged to make arrangements before commencement to meet family and friends outside of the HTC Center after the ceremony at a designated location.
Commencement Public Safety Policy
Coastal Carolina University has implemented a commencement public safety policy to provide a safer environment for the public. This policy limits the type of items that can be brought into the HTC Center. All bags will be subject to search. Prohibited items must be returned to the owner's car or discarded. Any items left at the entrances after the ceremony will be discarded. Please review the Commencement Public Safety Policy prior to attending the ceremony.
