Accessibility - Coastal Carolina University
In This Section

Coastal Carolina University is committed to ensuring its facilities, programs, and services are accessible to everyone. Listed below are the available accommodations and resources for the commencement ceremony. If you require additional services or have questions, please contact the Office of Special Events, at 843-349-2811 or, by Aug. 2, 2021, so that we can coordinate any accommodations needed. Our top priority is an enjoyable experience for all of our guests.

Student Requests

Students requiring accommodations during the commencement ceremony should email as soon as possible.

The ceremony will have open captioning in the HTC Center. A live streaming transcription of the audio portion of the ceremony will be displayed on the two larger screens flanking the main stage for guests.

Accessible Seating

Accessible seating is available in the first row of each bleacher section, which is designated by white and blue tape. Due to high demand, patrons using accessible seating may have one companion accompany them in the accessible seating areas. As space permits, families and friends are welcomed to sit near or behind individuals using accessible seating. However, it is important to note that accessible seating areas, like all commencement seating, are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Event staff will be on hand the day of commencement to assist.

Accessible Accommodations

The majority of hotels in the area offer accessible accommodations. Family and friends needing accessible accommodations are encouraged to directly contact the hotel to make arrangements.

Accessible Parking and Mobility Assistance

Limited accessible parking is available in the AA lot in front of the HTC Center. This lot is accessible via Founders drive, and only open to those with an official state-issued ADA placard or license plate. In addition to CCU shuttles, which are wheelchair accessible, golf cart shuttles will also be available to transport guests who need assistance getting to the HTC Center.

Wheelchairs will not be available at the venue; however, below is a list of local vendors who provide the following rental equipment: wheelchairs, scooters, and other mobility devices. The process and length of rentals vary and rentals may need to be picked up from the vendor. Please call the vendor directly to ensure accurate pricing and rental information.
