CARL SAGAN DAY 2023
Thursday, Nov. 9, 5 p.m.
Jeffry Halverson, professor of religious studies, discusses the late astronomer, cosmologist, astrophysicist, and public intellectual Carl Sagan (1934-1996) as a theorist of religious studies. Halverson analyzes Sagan’s critical understanding of religion and how scholars may apply his approach in the discipline of religious studies. In light of Sagan’s ideas, Halverson asserts that there must be greater interdisciplinary coordination between the physical sciences and the humanities/social sciences.
