Experiential learning is an integral part of the teaching experience. In the classroom, students gain theoretical knowledge to solve real-world problems by asking questions, challenging their professors and classmates, and elevating their thinking. This knowledge is then applied through field work in local classrooms, educational settings, and mentoring opportunities. All students at Coastal Carolina University are required to complete at least one experiential learning course prior to graduation; the graduates in the undergraduate programs in the Spadoni College of Education complete a minimum of four experiential learning courses by the time that they finish the program.
The Spadoni College of Education offers numerous courses across the majors that offer an experiential learning opportunity. Through these courses, teacher candidates spend time observing and teaching lessons. More information on the courses offered can be found at Coastal Carolina University’s Experiential Learning Website.
