ARTD 397 Visual Communication Design Exhibition. (3 credits) (prereq: BFA major only, ARTD 309) In this course, students learn to develop systems and methodologies for solving real-world, pragmatic design problems. Students begin by identifying an area of research and discussing its relationship to graphic design. Students address social, environmental, political, linguistic, philosophical, and cultural issues through an independent, self-authored graphic design project that requires experimentation, adaptability, and specialization. Upon completion students professionally display their project in a group exhibition. S.

What research has led to this request?
To meet industry requirements BFA programs require a research level course in which the students create a selfĂ‚Âauthored research project from conception to a final professional product. This advance research level course has been developed to prepare the BFA design students to be future art directors and leaders in the design community.
What impact will this request have on existing academic programs?
This addition will strengthen our program and help prepare our students to take on future leadership responsibilities in their design career.
