Chinese 115 - Introductory Chinese I (5 credits)This course introduces students to the Mandarin Chinese language and the many facets of Chinese culture. This course also helps students develop the basic language skills of speaking, listening, and communicating in everyday situation in Chinese culture. As a flipped/hybrid course, three credits are delivered face-to-face and two hours via distance learning format. Semesters offered: F, S, M, Su.

What research has led to this request?
There is an increasing interest in the Chinese courses on campus. Converting the CHIN110&120 model to CHIN115 (5 credits) allows students to fulfill their language requirement within one semester so the enrollment of the course will increase. Taking CHIN115 will allow interested students to move faster to the upper-level courses. In the long run, such a change will help the Chinese program to grow.

This course will be taught by a faculty member and will count toward her normal teaching load. There will be no additional costs.
