What research has led to this request?
Over the past 2 years, I have implemented performance art assignments into the sculpture curriculum, as well as taught an ARTS 499 Performance Art class in the Spring of 2018. Since this medium has been introduced to the department, many students have flourished in terms of conceptual thought and skill. Performance Art is a contemporary medium within the visual arts; in order to prepare our students for the professional art world and to provide them with a holistic experience, it is imperative for them to have access to such a course. Additionally, there has been no other course within the college that offers such content and practice.
What impact will this request have on existing academic programs?
This course has the ability to reinforce other programs and areas of study. For example, a portion of this class is dedicated to shooting and editing video, which complements the Digital Culture and Design program. Students will take advantage of the AV equipment provided by the college, as well as utilizing computer labs to learn video editing software. Because the request for the enrollment of this course is below 10 students, it should not negatively impact the enrollment in other upper-level courses.
What financial costs are associated with this request?
Lab Fees of $50 to offset costs of consumables are associated with this course. While there are physical spaces that can host the course, the department is currently working on an appropriate space that includes lighting and allows for proper documentation.Additionally, tech requests are being used to accommodate the costs associated with computers, video editing software and lighting rigs.
If NO change in cost is anticipated, how is this possible?
