What research has led to this request?
The retention rate of my Chinese introductory courses is quite high. For instance, half of my CHIN120 class will continue with CHIN210 next semester. Students who plan to further their Chinese studies need more electives to enrich their learning experience and increase the chance to minor in the language. CHIN311( Chinese Reading and Writing) focuses on further improvement of students' reading and writing skills. Since written Chinese is widely considered a challenge for Chinese learners, students who take this course will have the opportunity to enhance their knowledge of Chinese characters. Moreover, the course will help the current Chinese program grow by increasing the number of electives.
What impact will this request have on existing academic programs?
CHIN311 has a focus on reading and writing, which allows students to receive more in-depth training in these areas. The course will also increase the number of Chinese electives from three to four.
What financial costs are associated with this request?
This course will be taught by a faculty member and will count toward her normal teaching load. There will be no additional costs.
If NO change in cost is anticipated, how is this possible?
