What research has led to this request?
Given that learning Chinese involves two separate parts: pronunciation (how to say things) and characters ( how to read and write). The majority of my students have asked me if I could offer a course in Chinese that has more specific focus. These students intend to further their Chinese studies after having fulfilled their language requirement with Mandarin Chinese. The offering of CHIN310 (Chinese Conversation) will give students intensive training in spoken Chinese and help them function successfully in everyday situations in Chinese. Additionally, the course will increase the number of Chinese electives from three to four, which eventually helps students build a minor in Chinese.
What impact will this request have on existing academic programs?
CHIN310 has a focus on spoken Chinese, which gives students the choice of enhancing their speaking skills. The course will increase the number of Chinese electives from three to four. It helps grow the current Chinese program.
What financial costs are associated with this request?
This course will be taught by a faculty member and will count toward her normal teaching load. There will be no additional costs.
If NO change in cost is anticipated, how is this possible?
