What research has led to this request?
Based on candidates' field experiences where they are increasingly being asked to teach in inclusive setting, content area instruction is math is critical. Teacher candidates have requested a course with a focus on teaching mathematics and the program faculty agree that is is beneficial.
What impact will this request have on existing academic programs?
The positive impact of this change is that future teachers will be more knowledgeable regarding materials, adaptations, and strategies to effectively teach mathematics to students with mild to moderate disabilities. This will increase the credits in this course by 3.

Although our course loads are full, lecturers/adjuncts can be used to teach this course or relieve faculty of other courses so that this one can be added to their load.
