3. Sociology Foundation

Department wants to add "All courses in Foundation require minimum of C or better."

What research has led to this request?
The department's assessment of student learning indicates that students who earn Cs or better in our foundation perform better in our major classes. Students who earn a "D" in a specified course retain very little information from that course. Counting such courses as successful completion of our overall program, we feel, will put students at a disadvantage compared to their contemporaries once entering the job market or applying for graduate school.
What impact will this request have on existing academic programs?
None
What financial costs are associated with this request?
None
If NO change in cost is anticipated, how is this possible?
All the change is doing is requiring a C or better in a student's 2nd science (not the one counting in the core) and their CSCI course.
