Describe the proposed EL-activities:
Throughout the course, students will work in groups to create field guides for tree and plant species present on campus or in the region. Four weeks of the semester will be dedicated to group work, including research on tree and plant species native to the region and also going around campus to document, measure, and monitor trees and plants (12 hours). Four additional class sessions will entail fieldwork instruction for how to conduct site assessments (4 hours).
Describe the assignment(s) you may use to assess SLO 1.1:
Students will be required to collect observational field notes on trees and plants across campus.
Describe the assignment(s) you may use to assess each SLO you have selected under Goal 2:
Students will be required to research trees and plants that are native to the area to author a field guide.

As EL and service learning opportunities have emerged within the department on campus, and as this course is an upper level major requirement, it is a unique opportunity for all students in the ANTH/GEOG program to gain exciting hands-on experience with activities relevant to their major.

Changing this course to Q* gives students an additional EL opportunity in ANTH/GEOG.
