What research has led to this request?
The program's accrediting body, ABET, revised and updated their student learning outcomes and curriculum requirements effective this academic year. As a new program going for initial accreditation in 2020, the revisions necessitated a significant redesign of the Engineering Science program's major requirements, pattern of course offerings, and required and elective courses. A significant program outcome is to prepare graduates for professional licensure. A gap analysis was performed against ABET’s new curricular requirements as well as the latest content of the relevant license exams and the creation of several new courses was warranted, with subsequent accommodating adjustments to existing courses. This course creation request is directly motivated by its need identified in the gap analysis mentioned above. See attachments for details.
What impact will this request have on existing academic programs?
The main impact will be positive. Students will acquire content knowledge and problem solving skills in an important subject matter area of the Fundamentals of Engineering exam, for advanced course work and research activity.
What financial costs are associated with this request?
1 new faculty teaching load per year which will be met by a new line the department has received.
If NO change in cost is anticipated, how is this possible?
N/A

Are any of the new resources needed for Accreditation purposes? Yes
Explanation:
A Lab fee of $75 is requested to generate funds to obtain new capital equipment for demonstrations and laboratories, and to maintain existing equipment. Substantial laboratory development is necessary for achievement of Program student learning outcomes, which has an impact on accreditation. ABET accreditation Criterion 7: Facilities establishes the standard to which laboratory support for instruction should attain to. The manual for ABET Program Evaluators (PEVs) persons states that facilities, including labs must be (1) “Adequate to support attainment of student outcomes and provide an atmosphere conducive to learningâ€, that Program facilities contain (2) “Modern tools, equipment , computing resources, and laboratoriesâ€, and that Program facilities be (3) “available, accessible, and systematically maintained and upgraded.â€
