What research has led to this request?
The program's accrediting body, ABET, revised and updated their student learning outcomes and curriculum requirements effective this academic year. As a new program going for initial accreditation in 2020, the revisions necessitated a significant redesign of the Engineering Science program's major requirements, pattern of course offerings, and required and elective courses. A significant program outcome is to prepare graduates for professional licensure. A gap analysis was performed against ABET’s new curricular requirements as well as the latest content of the relevant license exams and the creation of several new courses was warranted, with subsequent accommodating adjustments to existing courses. This course change is a companion prerequisite change to the change for PHYS 211/L to have MATH 160 as coreq. instead of prereq. These two changes provide greater ease of access to the 200-level PHYS sequence while still ensuring that students to do progress to more advanced topics in that sequence without the necessary skills in calculus.

The main impact will be positive. Students will have greater ease of access to the 200-level physics sequence.

None.

This course is already taught in load and already required by Engineering majors, so there is no anticipated increase in sections needed or teaching load.
