What research has led to this request?
In reviewing our course offerings, we found that the catalog did not include a course on this major subfield of archaeology. Adding this course provides students with instruction in this major subfield, better preparing them for existing regional and topical courses on historical archaeology, and, for employment in cultural resources management. This course also increases the number of upper-level electives available to majors and minors of our growing program, as well as for other students who would benefit from this course as an elective or cognate.
What impact will this request have on existing academic programs?
This course will fill an instructional gap that currently exists in the catalog (more specialized regional and topical courses in historical archaeology listed, but not a course to provide students with the broader background needed for the subfield). It will also expand the options for upper-level elective and cognate courses.
What financial costs are associated with this request?
none
If NO change in cost is anticipated, how is this possible?
Course will be taught in-load by existing faculty.
